Composer's Note

This anthem setting is based on the well-known tune by Louis Bourgeois, but is given an upbeat, dance-like telling. It was premiered in 2009 by the Heritage Singers in a performance at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Illinois, commonly known as "Lincoln's Church," as it was the church home of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln.

It is scored with optional percussion instruments, but can be successfully performed with or without percussion.

Text (Thomas Ken and William Kethe)

Sing praise! Sing praise to Him!
Praise ye above, praise the Lord!

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

All people that on earth do dwell;
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid He did us make;
We are his folk, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.

O enter in His gates with praise;
Approach with joy his courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

Sing praise! Sing praise to Him!
